O'Toole: Nets Should Keep "New Jersey" On Their Jerseys
For our inaugural post, we dip into that never-ending well of bad ideas, the New Jersey Senate Republican Caucus. Go ahead and read the release. I'll wait for you.
Welcome back! Wasn't that a fantastic press release? The economy is down, unemployment is up and health care reform is teetering (all thanks to Congressional Republicans) and what is Senator O'Toole worried about? The Nets' road uniforms! Someone has a little too much time on their hands.
Whining about how little our sports teams respect the fact that they play in NJ is one of the most played out and least productive political press release memes ever. Thereare several reasons for this: a) a healthy majority of NJ sports fans root for a NY or Philly team; b) "Jersey" teams aren't exactly known as powerhouses (except for the Giants, which really are a NY team); and c) it's not like NJ provides the facilities in the Meadowlands out of charity - we get economic benefits no matter where they say they are from.
In fact, I say the Nets aren't going far enough. Given ye dismal .415 win percentage over the last two seasons, they should take New Jersey off all of their uniforms. Does NJ as a state really want a losing team representing them across the country. Come back with a title and then we can talk about restoring the former uniforms.
